Toshiba DynaEdge AR smart glasses technology analysis
Starting at $1,899 for business users, the dynaEdge AR smart glasses offer a head-up display rather than extensive augmented reality features. Toshiba emphasized that, unlike Microsoft's HoloLens, the product focuses more on augmented reality experiences rather than just enhancements.
Similar to Google Glass, the dynaEdge can project a computer screen into one eye, allowing users to access digital content while maintaining awareness of their surroundings. The optical module includes a 5-megapixel camera with a flash, making it possible to take photos directly from the glasses. Toshiba and Vuzix collaborated to develop an optical film set with a resolution of 640x360, providing clear and sharp visuals.
The device is equipped with various sensors, including distance sensors, ambient light sensors, LED lights, GPS, compass, gyroscope, a camera, speaker, and microphone, along with a built-in display. This combination makes it a versatile tool for both office and field use.
The dynaEdge mobile mini computer was launched in August last year, featuring an Intel Core M processor, 6GB of RAM, and 512GB of internal storage. It offers up to six hours of battery life on a single charge, making it suitable for extended use throughout the day.
Peter Han, vice president of partner device solutions at Microsoft, praised the dynaEdge as an innovative solution that leverages the power and security of Windows 10 Pro. He noted that the glasses provide greater productivity for industrial workers by offering flexibility and security, whether they are in the office or on the job site.
Toshiba has introduced a new split design for its dynaEdge AR smart glasses, which run a full Windows 10 system. The product consists of a head-mounted display and a separate dynaEdge DE-100 mobile mini PC, offering enhanced performance and portability.
Users can experience the device’s functionality through real-world applications, making it ideal for professionals who need hands-free access to information and tools. The glasses represent a significant step forward in wearable technology, blending computing power with practical design.
Transmission poles are tall structures used to support overhead power lines that carry electricity from power plants to homes, businesses and other buildings. These poles are typically made of wood, steel, or concrete and are spaced along transmission lines to provide support and maintain proper tension on the wires. Transmission poles are designed to withstand all weather conditions and are an important part of the grid infrastructure.
