This article discusses a fieldbus junction and Ethernet application case to demonstrate how fieldbus technology enhances data access at the site management level. In this example, the lower layer uses the PROFIBUS-DP protocol, where field instrument data is collected by an industrial computer. The upper layer operates on the TCP/IP protocol, allowing real-time communication between the industrial computer and the management system through an interface program.
System Features:
The system uses a bus configuration due to the distributed nature of the collection points across various workshops in the production line. This approach reduces cabling, simplifies installation, and makes debugging and maintenance more efficient. The industrial computer monitors the instantaneous values of energy consumption and calculates the cumulative totals using an application program. These accumulated values are then periodically sent to the upper-level management system.
The system supports cross-platform communication: the industrial computer runs Windows 2000, with Think&Do monitoring software for real-time data tracking. The cumulative values are transferred via TCP/IP to a Unix-based system, enabling seamless data exchange between platforms.
