Computers can now understand speech as well as humans, and Facebook’s facial recognition technology surpasses human accuracy. Machine vision is a major driver in self-driving car development, with experts predicting fully autonomous vehicles on the roads within 50 years. However, this shift could eliminate 10% of U.S. jobs related to driving. Vardi stressed that no profession is immune from automation. Even industries like the adult entertainment sector may see robotic replacements. Former physicist Stephen Hawking once warned that AI could lead to human extinction, while Elon Musk has funded research into AI safety to prevent threats to human survival. Those who believe they're too skilled to be replaced by machines should reconsider. A recent report by Bank of America shows that robot costs have dropped by 27% over the past decade and are expected to fall another 22% in the next ten years. For companies, hiring humans is becoming less cost-effective. By 2025, 45% of global manufacturing jobs could be automated—far higher than the current 10%. As AI and IoT continue to evolve, the transformation will accelerate. The report also highlights how advancements in machine learning, voice, and facial recognition are making robots more capable of interacting with customers. This industrial revolution could reshape the global economy, leading to greater inequality as low-skill and mid-skill jobs disappear. Unlike previous industrial shifts, where workers moved into more complex roles, this time many professionals may find themselves forced to take on simpler, less fulfilling tasks. As AI becomes more integrated into daily life, it's clear that the future of work is uncertain—and the need for adaptability has never been greater.
