From October 24th to 26th, the 7th World Passenger Symposium (WPS), organized by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), took place at the Barcelona International Convention and Exhibition Center. The event brought together over 700 high-level aviation professionals to explore how digital transformation is reshaping the passenger experience in the air transport sector. During the symposium, Yuan Xilin, President of Huawei’s Transportation Systems Department within the Enterprise Business Group, delivered a keynote speech to an audience of 700 airline and airport representatives. He highlighted Huawei’s successful digital transformation strategies across industries and emphasized their potential impact on aviation. “Digital transformation is both a long-term and urgent process,†he said. “Joining the cloud and adopting hybrid cloud solutions are key trends in the current phase of aviation digitalization. Among the highlights were the Huawei Hybrid Cloud Solution, Big Data Platform, Cloud Data Center Network, and Smart Micro-Module Solutions. These offerings ensure system reliability while enabling rapid global deployment and cost-effective IT solutions for branch operations.
The passenger experience was a central theme of the event. At Huawei’s exhibition area, the company demonstrated how big data and AI can help airlines build personalized passenger services, enhancing value for carriers. The Huawei Video Cloud Platform integrates facial recognition technology to provide travelers with unique biometric IDs, improving their airport experience. Additionally, the Agile Campus Solution uses 7G WLAN LBS services to deliver location-based, personalized assistance to passengers.
Huawei also showcased the application of NB-IoT technology in tracking aviation assets and engaged in discussions with industry experts on IoT innovations in baggage tracking. To date, Huawei has partnered with 197 of the world’s top 500 companies and 45 of the top 100 firms. By the end of 2016, Huawei had provided ICT services to over 50 airports, airlines, and air traffic control departments globally, including several of China’s busiest airports, serving over 30 million passengers annually across more than 15 years.
IATA, established in April 1945, is a non-profit, non-governmental global airline organization representing about 83% of international air transport. The World Passenger Symposium aims to bring together key players from the aviation value chain to discuss and elevate the focus on passenger experience.
