Volkswagen has long been a top-tier brand among joint-venture car manufacturers, known for its strong reputation and loyal customer base. Models like the Passat and Lavida have always been popular in the market. In recent years, with SUVs becoming more dominant in the domestic auto market, Volkswagen has also focused heavily on this segment. One of their latest entries, the T-Prime GTE concept car, is expected to make a big impact. This model is an upgraded version of the Touran, built on the Porsche platform, and is estimated to start at around 350,000 RMB. It could potentially challenge luxury models such as the Audi Q7.
Design-wise, the T-Prime GTE continues the concept car's style, incorporating modern and youthful elements that appeal to younger buyers. The front face features a high level of brand recognition, with the signature multi-grid chrome grille and sharp LED headlights. This combination creates a powerful and dynamic look that stands out on the road.
The side design is more conventional but still distinctive, drawing inspiration from the Touran. The body lines are more rugged, giving it a slightly off-road feel, while the rear design features a sloping roofline that adds to its sporty appearance. Overall, the design is bold and in line with current automotive trends, offering a spacious interior due to its longer length compared to the standard Touran.
Inside, the T-Prime GTE brings a futuristic and dynamic touch to Volkswagen’s traditional design language. It features a large 15-inch infotainment screen with full digital display, offering an immersive visual experience. The use of wood and aluminum accents enhances the luxury feel, while the leather seats provide excellent comfort and a premium driving experience.
In terms of power, the T-Prime GTE is equipped with a plug-in hybrid system featuring a 2.0T engine producing 376 horsepower and 699 Nm of torque. It comes with an 8-speed automatic transmission and offers full-time four-wheel drive options. This powertrain is not only powerful but also competitive with top luxury brands like BMW and Mercedes-Benz, making the T-Prime GTE a strong contender in the premium SUV market.
