TSY-9 Geosynthetics Vertical Permeameter

The TSY-9 vertical permeameter is designed in accordance with the standards set by JTGE50-2006, specifically for evaluating the in-plane water flow characteristics of geosynthetic materials. This device is ideal for measuring vertical permeability across a wide range of geotechnical materials. It offers stable performance, ease of use, and practicality for both laboratory and field applications.

Technical Specifications:

  • Sample Size: φ80mm
  • Dimensions: 600 × 750 × 1900 mm
  • Machine Weight: 150 kg

Operating Instructions:

  1. Place the sample in a water solution containing a humectant (0.1% V/V sodium alkyl benzene sulfonate) and soak it for at least 12 hours to ensure full saturation and removal of air bubbles.
  2. Remove the high-pressure chamber (refer to Figure 12). Install the test specimen (5) onto the holder (6). Ensure the sample is clean, free from dirt or creases, and laid flat without any load applied. Reinstall the high-pressure chamber and tighten the nut evenly.
  3. Open the water valve (3) and fill the high-pressure water tank (2) with clean water until the head difference on both sides reaches 50mm (11). Turn off the water supply. If the heads are not balanced within 5 minutes, open the exhaust valve (13) to release trapped air and note this in the report.
  4. Adjust the flow so that the head difference is maintained at 70mm ± 5mm. Record this value accurately to 1mm. Once the head stabilizes for 30 seconds, collect the permeate water over a specified time period (8). The volume should be measured to the nearest 10mL, and the time to the nearest second. Collect at least 1000mL of water, ensuring the time is no less than 30 seconds.
  5. Repeat the procedure for maximum head differences of 0.8, 0.6, 0.4, and 0.2 times the initial head. Start with the highest flow rate and proceed to the lowest. Record all corresponding permeate volumes and times.
  6. Record the water temperature to the nearest 0.2°C.
  7. Calculate the results according to the relevant standard, T1141-2006.
  8. After testing, open the drain valve (4) and drain all remaining water. Clean the instrument thoroughly before storage.

Test Report Requirements:

  • Sample name, specification model, and condition description
  • Description of the sample's physical state
  • Date of the test
  • Permeameter specifications and key technical parameters
  • Effective water area of the sample
  • A graph showing flow rate versus head loss for each sample
  • Flow velocity index (VI50) at 50mm head difference, including vertical permeability coefficient and water permeability
  • Water temperature range during the test
  • Details of the water supply method and dissolved oxygen level
  • Any deviations from the standard procedure

This detailed guide ensures accurate and consistent measurement of geosynthetic permeability, making the TSY-9 an essential tool for engineers and researchers working with soil and geotechnical materials.
