Littelfuse, a global leader in circuit protection solutions, has launched the SP814x series of low-capacitance TVS diode arrays. These devices are specifically designed to safeguard electronic systems from damaging electrostatic discharge (ESD) events. The SP814x family features four or six ultra-low capacitance rail-to-rail diode channels, along with additional Zener diodes, ensuring robust ESD protection that meets and exceeds the IEC61000-4-2 standard for repeated contact discharges of up to ±8kV.

With an ultra-low load capacitance of 1.0pF (typical) per input/output, the SP814x series offers minimal signal degradation, making it ideal for high-speed interfaces such as HDMI 2.0, USB 3.0, USB 2.0, and IEEE 1394. The fast response time and low series resistance further enhance its performance, allowing engineers to maintain signal integrity without compromising speed or reliability.

The SP814x series is well-suited for a wide range of applications, including LCD/PDP TVs, external storage devices, DVD/Blu-ray players, desktops and servers, notebooks and tablets, set-top boxes, smartphones, flash memory cards, and digital video cameras. Its compact design and high-performance characteristics make it a versatile solution for modern electronics.

While CMF devices are often seen as valuable, they can introduce signal integrity issues due to their slower response times. This can lead to unnecessary complexity and higher costs in circuit design.”

“The SP814x series, on the other hand, offers the same form factor as CMF devices but with superior ESD performance and lower cost. It’s a practical solution that doesn’t compromise on protection, making it ideal for space-constrained designs like smartphones and other high-speed communication devices,” he added.
