Recently, I came across a survey online that said over 90% of people aren’t sure what cloud computing is, nor do they know how it can benefit them. It’s amazing how something so widespread remains so mysterious to many.

Think of cloud computing as a modern-day appliance. To use your washing machine or refrigerator, you don’t need a generator at home—you just plug it in and go. Similarly, cloud computing offers a model where you don’t have to worry about owning powerful hardware or massive storage. In the future, you won’t need a high-performance computer or a huge hard drive. All you need is an internet connection, and you can access everything you need from anywhere, anytime. This new way of computing is reshaping how we interact with information in a world where connectivity is everywhere—this is the essence of cloud computing.

Today, cloud computing is used in four main areas: cloud security, cloud gaming, cloud storage, and cloud IoT. Let's take cloud storage as an example. If your current storage system is outdated, or if your data center is becoming too expensive to maintain due to rising power and cooling costs, or if your storage capacity is running out, moving to the cloud could be a smart move. While full migration might seem overwhelming, the cloud allows for selective mobility. You can transfer less critical data to the cloud, reducing the burden on your local systems and avoiding unnecessary growth in your online storage needs.
