Chuanbei Oil Lamp Photography Set: Recording Lighting Changes (Figure)

Yang Gu tells the story behind the photo

Along the timeline of a change in illumination, capture the vicissitudes of the years between the beautiful light and shadow. On September 7th, the eight-year-old "Chubei Oil Lamp" special photography collection debut and work seminar was held in Rong. At the same time, the participating experts affirmed the artistic value of the works, and said that the Chuanbei oil lamp special photography album provides valuable historical materials for the research and inheritance of folk folk culture.

The oil lamp has been a traditional Chinese lighting fixture since ancient times. It has a wide variety of shapes and shapes, using kerosene, vegetable oil and tung oil as fuel. With the development of the power industry, the oil lamps gradually disappeared, and some folk things under the oil lamps gradually faded out of sight. The original intention of my shooting was to use the camera to record and discover the history of using oil lamps, and to provide some valuable historical materials for the study and inheritance of folk folk culture. With this idea enough, I have been working on the topic of oil lamps since 2000. The author Yang Gu recalled that one day eight years ago, I accompanied the guests of Chengdu to visit the former residence of Yilong, and saw a very antique oil lamp in the showroom. As a child born in a remote town, I felt very cordial. It reminds me of the memories of those days that accompanied me with the oil lamps.

The oil lamps that are gradually withdrawing from the historical stage are not easy for collectors, and it is even more difficult to reproduce the pictures that conform to the historical folk background of the oil lamps. Collecting oil lamps is a prerequisite for shooting. In order to find oil lamps, I have traveled all over Sichuan, especially Nanchong. I have arrived in almost every township. Looking back on the course of eight years of shooting, Yang Ou felt a lot. I didn't take the oil lamp for the oil lamp. After I saw the oil lamp, I found a matching theme. It is my original intention to explore the folk folk culture behind it. Sometimes in order to shoot a good piece of work, I will go back and forth several times in a few hundred miles for a light.

Once, I heard that there was a tin pot with three lights in a teahouse in the southern county. I was looking for a few months to find this teahouse in the basement in Xiangyang Lane. Speaking of the story behind each piece of work, Yang Ou said that he couldn't finish it for three days and three nights. At that time, an old storyteller was talking about the storytelling. It is said that this is the last tea garden in North Sichuan. The audience of the storytelling is all the elderly. The storyteller Cao Rong has been over the age of a flower and has no biography. The rescue and protection of these folk cultural heritages is worrying. This is also the driving force that I have always insisted on.

The forty-eight works included in the Chuanbei Oil Lamp Special Photography Album have high artistic value and provide valuable historical materials for the study and inheritance of folk folk culture. On the same day, the experts of the Sichuan Photographers Association, Kang Dazhao and other experts participated in the workshop, and they made high praises. It is reported that these photographs have been exhibited to the country many times, and some of them have won the highest level of the Bashu literary award in the Sichuan literature and art circles.
