A coupling is a mechanical component used to connect two shafts—such as the driving and driven shafts—in different mechanisms, enabling them to rotate together and transmit torque. Once the machine is in operation, the two shafts cannot be separated. They can only be disconnected when the machine is stopped and the coupling is disassembled. In high-speed and heavy-duty power transmission systems, certain couplings also provide damping and shock absorption capabilities, improving the dynamic performance of the entire shafting system.
Due to manufacturing and installation inaccuracies, as well as elastic and thermal deformation of the foundation or frame under load, the two shafts connected by a coupling will inevitably experience some degree of misalignment. This misalignment can lead to additional loads on the shafts, bearings, and coupling itself, potentially causing severe vibrations. Therefore, the coupling must have the ability to compensate for this misalignment, reducing the extra stress and enhancing the overall transmission efficiency while extending the life of the machinery. To further reduce vibration and minimize peak impact loads, the coupling should also possess some level of cushioning and damping properties.
In essence, a coupling connects two shafts axially, transmitting motion and torque while allowing for a certain amount of misalignment compensation. To enhance system stability and reduce mechanical stress, it should also have shock-absorbing features. In some cases, couplings are designed to offer overload protection as well.

**Main Purpose of Micro Motor Coupling**
**Metal Spiral Spring Coupling**
This type of coupling is ideal for use with rotary encoders, stepper motors, screws, and industrial machinery. It offers zero backlash and is available in one-piece metal elastomer designs (threaded or slotted). The elastic structure compensates for radial, angular, and axial misalignments, providing high torque rigidity and sensitivity. It supports both clockwise and counterclockwise rotation equally, and is maintenance-free, oil-resistant, and available in aluminum alloy or stainless steel. It comes in various sizes and can be fastened using clamping or screw methods, making it particularly suitable for applications involving stepper motors.
**Diaphragm Coupling**
Designed for servo motors, encoders, planetary gears, worm gears, large-pitch ball screws, mixers, paper machines, robots, and pumps, this coupling is known for its high rigidity and torque capacity. It is ideal for high-speed operations and features zero rotational play, excellent torsional stiffness, and high sensitivity. It is maintenance-free, oil and corrosion-resistant, and uses a double stainless steel diaphragm to compensate for radial, angular, and axial misalignments. It is especially suited for encoder and servo systems.
**Bellows Coupling**
Bellows couplings are commonly used in encoders, machine tools, positioning systems, ball screws, indexing plates, and planetary gear reducers. They feature no backlash, high torsional rigidity, and a reliable connection. These couplings are resistant to corrosion and high temperatures (up to 300°C), and their bellows structure allows for radial, angular, and axial misalignment compensation. They are available in phosphor bronze or stainless steel and are ideal for precision applications such as measurement and control systems.
**Cross Slider Coupling**
This coupling is suitable for a wide range of applications, including tachometers, encoders, screws, and industrial machinery. It provides a non-backlash connection and is simple in design, easy to install, and cost-effective. It has a small moment of inertia, is visually inspectable, and offers oil and corrosion resistance. The slider elastomers allow for significant radial and angular misalignment, while the special bump design in the middle section reduces shaft loading and prevents bending moments.
**Plum-Type Coupling**
Ideal for servo systems, spindle drives, lifting platforms, machine tool drives, and gearboxes, this coupling is compact and backlash-free. It offers three different hardness levels of elastomers that absorb vibration and accommodate radial and angular misalignment. It is easy to maintain, inspect, and install, and is oil and electrically insulated. It operates within a temperature range of -20°C to 60°C, and its plum-shaped body features six or eight petals. It is available with keyway options for secure mounting.
**Curved Tooth Coupling**
Used for flexible transmission, this coupling excels in compensating for axial, radial, and angular misalignments. It offers excellent mechanical properties, operates effectively at high temperatures (+100°C) and low temperatures without embrittlement, and is electrically insulated and chemically resistant. It is maintenance-free, easy to install, and available in combinations of nylon and steel, ensuring long-lasting performance even without lubrication.
