SiGe Semiconductor has introduced the world's thinnest Wi-Fi power amplifier, the RangeCharger™ SE2523BU, featuring an ultra-slim 0.5mm side-to-side package that integrates the company’s advanced SiGe technology. This innovative design reduces power consumption by up to 25%, making it a perfect fit for battery-powered portable devices like smartphones, tablets, and wearables.
As the latest addition to the SE2523x series, which was launched last year and quickly gained popularity in the market, the SE2523BU offers seamless integration of Wi-Fi capabilities into a wide range of consumer electronics, including PDAs, VoWi-Fi phones, digital cameras, computer peripherals, and even automotive systems.
Andrew Parolin, Director of Wireless Data Products at SiGe Semiconductor, stated, "With the growing demand for wireless connectivity beyond traditional computing, manufacturers are looking for components that can deliver high performance while fitting into smaller form factors. The SE2523BU allows for Wi-Fi integration into new applications without compromising on battery life or cost efficiency."
The SE2523BU is a 2.4GHz power amplifier housed in a compact 16-pin QFN package measuring just 3 x 3 x 0.5 mm. It includes integrated digital enable circuitry, a powerful power detector, and bias control, all contributing to its high performance. In 802.11g mode, it delivers +18.5dBm output with an EVM of 2.5%, while in 802.11b mode, it provides +23dBm output that meets all ACPR requirements.
One of the standout features of the SE2523BU is its highly stable power detector, which remains resistant to signal mismatch, maintaining performance even under a 2:1 impedance mismatch with less than 1.5dB variation. The device also offers two optional power detector ramps, enabling compatibility across multiple chipsets. Additionally, the digital enable control simplifies system design by allowing direct connection to CMOS basebands or transceivers.
Built on an efficient silicon-germanium platform, the SE2523BU operates from a single 3.3V supply and consumes as little as 130mA at +18.5dBm output—about 25% less than previous solutions. This combination of performance and low power makes it ideal for use in mobile and IoT devices where energy efficiency is critical.
The SE2523BU is now available in volume production, with pricing at $0.79 per unit for orders of 10,000 pieces. This makes it an attractive option for OEMs seeking reliable, high-performance Wi-Fi amplification in a compact and power-efficient package.
