At the GamesIndustry.biz investment summit, Mike Hayes, an investment director at Mercia Technologies, urged investors to remain patient as VR and AR technologies continue their journey toward mainstream adoption. He emphasized that despite current challenges, these innovations still require long-term support from the investment community.
"I’m worried that we might be giving up on VR and AR too soon," Hayes said. "Over the next few years, these technologies will become fundamental in various industries—from education to healthcare and entertainment. The fact that PSVR downloads haven’t met expectations is just a temporary hurdle before the real breakthroughs happen."
While Hayes was speaking specifically to the British investment scene, his insights reflect a broader global trend. Unity’s CEO, John Riccitiello, previously highlighted a “disappointment gap†between early VR expectations and actual performance. This gap has led to some skepticism, but it also shows that the industry is still in its formative stages.
In July of this year, Mercia Technologies made a significant move by investing £2 million (around 17.8 million yuan) into the UK-based game studio nDreams. Known for titles like *Bloody Zombies* and *Shooty Fruity*, the studio has been working on immersive experiences that push the boundaries of VR gaming.
Interestingly, Hayes expressed a long-term commitment to the studio, stating he's willing to wait up to 15 years to see its full potential realized. That kind of patience is rare in today’s fast-paced tech world, but it reflects the belief that VR and AR are not just passing trends—they’re the future.
For VR to truly take off, the market needs affordable, user-friendly headsets that can reach a mass audience. Fortunately, progress is being made. Companies like Oculus and HTC have lowered prices on their devices, and advancements in inside-out tracking are making VR more accessible than ever. As Hayes pointed out, while the industry may need a bit more time to mature, the long-term outlook remains positive—and that’s something worth looking forward to.
Mobile phone headset is a pair of switching units that accept the electrical signals from a media player or receiver and convert them into audible sound waves using a speaker close to the ear. The headset is typically detachable from the media player and is connected by a plug. The advantage is that you can listen to the sound alone without affecting others; you can also separate the sound of the surrounding environment.
Mobile phone headset maintenance and care notes:
1: Be sure to lower the volume before use. If the volume of your output device is too large, not only damage ears, but also diaphragm folds, or even burne the voice coil of the earphone.
2: The earphones are away from strong magnets. The magnetic properties of the magnet of the unit will drop, and the sensitivity will decrease over time.
3: The earphones are away from moisture. The pads in the earphone unit will be rusted, the resistance will increase, and your earphones will be biased.
4: Keep away from chemicals. The outer casing of the earphone is very soluble in organic chemicals, so it is not good to look at it.
