20171H car wireless terminal shipments increased by 46% year-on-year
The vehicle-mounted wireless terminal refers to a device sold domestically, powered by a vehicle's electrical system, and equipped with a mobile communication module that allows connection to public telecommunications networks for enhancing vehicle management. Examples include dashcams, intelligent car robots, and GPS navigators. Among these, the smart car wireless terminal is a product featuring operating systems like Android or iOS. The integration of advanced communication technologies with the automotive industry has significantly boosted demand for domestic in-vehicle wireless terminal equipment. Car manufacturers, automotive electronics firms, spare parts suppliers, and IoT companies have all entered this market, launching various related products.
Firstly, the domestic market for vehicle-mounted wireless terminals has grown rapidly, with 4G products showing particularly impressive growth. In the first half of 2017, domestic shipments of in-vehicle wireless terminals reached 1.709 million units, representing a year-on-year increase of 46.0%, far exceeding the domestic car sales growth rate of 3.81% during the same period (data from the China Automobile Association). Among these, 2G products shipped 177,000 units, growing 9.5% year-on-year, accounting for 10.3%; 3G products shipped 453,000 units, declining 41.6% year-on-year, accounting for 26.5%; while 4G products shipped 1.08 million units, surging 361.9% year-on-year, accounting for 63.2%.

Secondly, domestic brands accounted for almost 70% of vehicle-mounted wireless terminal shipments. In the first half of 2017, domestic brands shipped 1.19 million units, increasing by 70.3% year-on-year, making up 69.6% of all products, a rise of 30 percentage points since 2015 and 2.7 percentage points compared to 2016.

Thirdly, new enterprises continue to enter the market, leading to a decline in market concentration. In the first half of 2017, there were 41 companies in production, including 14 new entrants. These producers included electronics firms, auto parts companies, complete vehicle manufacturers, and IoT companies. In terms of market concentration, the top five companies accounted for 52.4% of shipments in the first half of 2017, down 9.8 percentage points from 2016, indicating fiercer market competition.

Fourthly, the trend towards new product intelligence is evident. More and more car products are being equipped with operating systems to provide intelligent services such as traffic safety monitoring, operational management, service quality management, and intelligent centralized scheduling. This meets the demands of the current "Internet+" application promotion. In the first half of 2017, 13 new smart car wireless data terminal products were launched, making up 29.5% of all new products, an increase of 13.1 percentage points compared to 2016. Currently, all intelligent car wireless terminals are equipped with the Android system.
Lastly, products supporting both Beidou and GPS dual navigation functions are becoming mainstream. With the gradual improvement of the Beidou system and the decrease in terminal prices, Beidou/GPS dual navigation vehicle wireless terminals are on the rise. In the first half of 2017, among in-vehicle wireless terminals with navigation functions, based on shipment statistics, products supporting both Beidou and GPS accounted for 52.0%, and the proportion of new products listing these features was 21.6%.
