Taiwanese companies want to file a lawsuit against the EU for continuously levying a 14% import tariff on 19-inch LCD

The EU continues to impose a 14% import tariff on liquid crystal displays over 19 inches, which has been dissatisfied with manufacturers in other markets.

Recently, Taiwanese companies in the United States and the United States want to file a trade lawsuit against this.

Taiwanese companies and US companies insist that panels for 19-inch PC monitors are IT products and should receive zero-tariff treatment under the Information Technology Agreement (ITA). Earlier, the US trade representative had twice threatened to file a complaint with the WTO.

Taiwan, China is one of the largest production bases in the world. According to statistics, Taiwan's LCD monitor manufacturers export more than 19 inches of LCD products to the EU every year. Up to 35 billion yuan of products are subject to a 14% import tax. If they comply with the EU tariff agreement, it will pay at least 5 billion yuan. The price of the yuan, which directly affects exports.

Relevant industry associations in Taiwan and China have called on the EU to comply with the ITA Agreement. Deng Zhenzhong, an economic and trade negotiator commissioned by the business community, publicly stated that he is conducting a comprehensive analysis and assessment of the EU's tariff issue, and does not rule out legal action. However, he stressed that the case involved complex trade laws and policies, and there was no absolute victory.

It is reported that if the Taiwanese region and related companies in the United States file a complaint with the EU, the two sides will have two months of communication time. If the dispute is still not resolved, the former may request the establishment of a referee team to conduct investigations and judgments.

This year and next year is the decisive battle year for Taiwanese and Korean panel companies. Samsung Electronics has once again strengthened its high investment in this field.

At present, South Korea's Samsung, LG Display and other panel giants, as well as Japan's Sharp has not issued a protest.

Jiang Kai, head of NEC's strategic planning department at NEC, said that the EU's above regulations have no impact on mainland companies. Because, including the SERC NEC, the products are mostly parts and components, and many categories are zero tariffs. Moreover, even the whole machine will be exported as parts and then assembled into a complete machine in Europe.
