OSRAM launches Duris S 8 for multi-chip LEDs for indoor lighting
OSRAM Opto Semiconductors introduces the new Duris S 8 , a multi-chip, high-power new force for the Duris S LED series. This LED is finely grouped and provides excellent color consistency when combined with high brightness. This new Duris S is mainly used for directional and multi-directional replacement luminaires for indoor lighting, as well as for LED projection lamps; it is particularly suitable for directional lighting in office and commercial environments, as well as for home lighting.
This fine-grained grouping of LEDs corresponds to the coverage of the 5-step MacAdam ellipse, so that excellent color consistency (color sorting) can be achieved in directional replacement lamps. If the requirements for color homogeneity are high, an additional third-order MacAdam cluster can be provided. Duris S 8 is grouped according to color coordinates at a junction temperature of 100 °C, rather than the usual room temperature. Janick Ihringer, product manager for solid-state lighting at OSRAM Opto Semiconductors in Germany, said: "In terms of color rendering, Duris S 8 has a color rendering index of over 80. The next phase of the task is to further increase the color rendering index."
The new Duris S also emits a lot of light from a small surface, creating a highly efficient optical solution. The product size is only 5.8 x 5.2 mm and is available in two versions, six or eight. Directional replacement luminaires are available in an eight-chip version thanks to a brightness of 500 lm at 200 mA.
Ihringer added: "Small, low-cost drive modules for 20 to 30V forward voltage are available. In addition, they have many excellent technical features such as a lifetime of up to 25,000 hours or 110 °C. Operating at operating temperatures, it is especially suitable for target applications."
The Duris S 8 also reduces the system cost of the lighting system. The Duris S package contains an innovative plastic housing that is not only resistant to aging under high temperature and short-wave conditions, but also cost less than conventional ceramic housings.
