ST releases intensive data write 2-Mbit serial EEPROM chip

STMicroelectronics (ST; NYSE: STM), the world's leading supplier of EEPROM memory across multiple electronic applications, is the first to release 2-Mbit serial EEPROM chips for intensive data write applications. The new IC allows designers to replace multiple EEPROMs with a single EEPROM memory, improving parameter management performance on printed circuit boards. These innovative products help save manufacturing costs and board size for consumer and industrial applications such as TVs and screens, flat panel displays, set-top boxes, printers, smart meters and medical devices.

Compared with the existing low-capacity EEPROMs on the market, the M95M02 offers higher storage capacity in the same size package, the same pin connection configuration as the existing EEPROM, and an industry standard SPI high-speed serial port, so it can be directly replaced or upgraded. Existing system design. With a minimum operating voltage of 1.8V and a standby mode current of less than 5uA, the new product is ideal for low power or battery powered devices. In addition, the communication speed of the SPI interface reaches 5MHz at 2.5V. Another new 2-Mbit memory M24M02 has an industry-standard I2C high-speed interface with a maximum communication speed of 1MHz.

Both new products are packaged in ST's proprietary advanced EEPROM process and low-cost SO8N package, and are fully compatible with low-capacity memory. Both memories provide an additional memory page (256-byte identification page) that the customer can write to and then set to read-only mode to permanently archive the data in the stored page. This identification page stores unique identification codes and/or process-specific parameters to provide greater manufacturing flexibility for application board production lines.

These two new serial memory chips make ST's existing EEPROM portfolio more complete. The existing EEPROM portfolio consists of M95 Series (SPI) and M24 Series (I2C) with memory capacities from 1-kbit to 1-Mbit. The M95M02 and M24M02 with 2-Mbit capacity in SO8N package are available now.
