Ian Ferguson, vice president of the ARM Global Marketing and Strategy Alliance, pointed out that the artificial intelligence market has not yet been set, and each manufacturer has its own artificial intelligence implementation method. Some vendors use field-programmable gate array (FPGA) technology, while others use GPUs with ARM processors, or manufacturers that use their own custom engines to implement artificial intelligence. Therefore, for artificial intelligence, ARM's current focus is on building basic components and back-end control technologies to help partners develop applications such as artificial intelligence and data analysis.
Ferguson further explained that in the back-end control technology, taking NVIDIA as an example, the company uses ARM processors and its own GPU to achieve artificial intelligence. In the visual system part, the GPU collects external information for processing, but at the same time, it also derives the function that requires the operating system to drive the back-end application requirements, and the ARM processor is to assist the coordination of the back-end application. In other words, the front end is implemented by the GPU or FPGA, while the part of the back end that involves the Linux operating system is handled by the ARM processor.
Is it possible for ARM to develop a specialized artificial intelligence front-end architecture for artificial intelligence in the future? Ferguson said that because there is still a lot of room for change in artificial intelligence, even if the technology is attractive, the company will still take a wait-and-see strategy.
