LED growth slows manufacturers to actively seek new markets

High-brightness blue-and-white LEDs on the keypad and on the display make strong demand for light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and support the city.

But growth in this market is slowing, and manufacturers of LEDs are actively looking for new markets.

In 2007, large-screen TVs and LCD monitors will be emerging markets for high-brightness blue-and-white LEDs. Different configurations and different types of LEDs (RGB, white) will be adopted. iSuppli expects that by the end of 2007, the price of 1W white LEDs used in large-screen LCD monitors will drop to $1.2.

In addition, improvements in high-intensity LEDs of different colors have opened up new areas of the market, including the automotive industry and the lantern industry. iSuppli expects that by the end of this year, the price of a 1W white LED will be reduced to $1.50. In addition, iSuppli also believes that in 2007, LEDs will also enter some lighting edge markets, such as street lighting and parking lots.

As new production lines continue to be put into production in Taiwan and the mainland, the price of high-brightness blue LEDs continues to fall slowly. iSuppli believes that in the first half of 2007, the average selling price of the market will have a one-digit slow decline every quarter. Due to the fierce price competition of mobile phones, the market's attractiveness is weakened. Many large suppliers of high-brightness blue LEDs are looking for new cities. The potential of Beijing's solar energy industry is huge. China's second-hand semiconductor equipment market will exceed 800 million.
